Abstract

We should always consider “Accidents will happen”. The Laser Society of Japan did a questionnaire survey for about one year. I did examine the accident reports by web site and reference. The most common place of accidents was the laboratory room, and also the use of Nd: YAG laser was the most common in Japan. These cases with injuries on the fovea had poor visual acuity. I have the experience which got burned and burned work clothes when the experiment which a CO2 laser or Nd:YAG laser was used for was being done. I have ever suffered from a cornea injury when an KrF excimer laser device was operated. It explains in detail about the conditions when an accident happened and the progress after that. It is indispensable to attach protective goggles which are suitable for the wavelength as a safety countermeasure. It is important to continue regular safety education.
