With the development of the transvaginal probe for ultrasound scanning, facilitated assaying of low-level hCG and the wide-spread use of laparoscopy, early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy has become increasingly possible.
Contact irradiation with YAG laser fitted with a micro ceramic probe for incision virtually eliminates bleeding, and has become an effective tool in endoscopic operations. Conventionally, definitive diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy meant immediate laparotomy in O & G, we have, however, been able to obtain an excellent prognosis after a laparoscopic operation in which irradiation was carried out for 0.5-1 second at a time at an output of 10W. Steady healing was confirmed when laparoscopy was performed 12 days for a second look after the operation. The use of the microceramic tip for incision is expected to lead to a wider application of endoscopic operation.
