Abstract

Investigations have been made on the subsurface clay stratum as well as the structure of the elevated railways at Osaka Railway Station which was disfigured by severe uneven settlement caused mainly from land subsidence.
Through tests and studies on the consolidation characteristics of the clay, and by correcting numerical values of coefficients used in the clay, and by correcting mumerical values of coefficients used in the past, an estimate of the settlement in the future has been made to substantiate the proposed countermeasures against the settlement, which the structural investigations offered besides other basic information to support the scheme.
