A real-time ultrasound scanner was used for pregnancy diagnosis in rats. Results of tests proved that accuracy of the technique approaches 100% for diagnosing pregnancy from day 10 of gestation through term. Details of the fetal spine and the beating heart were visible after day 19 of gestation. Real-time ultrasound can be used for the diagnosis of rat pregnancy as a safe, rapid and easy method.
