The lasting effect is one of the important properties of “Make-up foundation”, and its evaluation has hitherto been mainly dependent on sensory testing in human subjects.
We investigated relationship in deterioration of foundation between sensory usage test and evaluation in vitro. we used three types of foundation for these tests.
In the usage test, those phenomena of deterioration were descibed by four major components as follows in the principal component analyis, They were “greasy” gloss, “good looking”, “look darkish” and “decrease of covering potency”.
On the other hand, the evaluations in vitro were performed with an applied glass method.
The relationships between the usage test and in vitro suggested that the first component was dependent on the change of gloss, which could be evaluated by measurement of gloss in vitro.
The third component was explained by color change, which was evaluated b. rate of decrease in L of “CIELAB” in vitro, respectively.
