Abstract

Concerning the scoring resistance of the gear drive, the effects of the load intensity fluctuation on the state of interference among projections were examined for a gear base oil using a two-cylinder test rig. The frequency of interference among projections in the heavy load intensity sector is higher than that in the light one. Under rolling contact condition, the frequency of interference among projections increases a little as the load is increased. Under sliding-rolling contact condition, the frequency of interference among projections is higher than that under rolling contact condition. The frequency increases as the elastohydrodynamic lubrication film thickness is decreased due to the outer surface bulk temperature rise of the cylinder as the result of a load increase. Under sliding-rolling contact condition, the change in surface roughness in the heavy load intensity sector is greater than that in the light one.
