In recent years, technologies for collecting position information of vessels such as AIS and ubiquitous navigation system have been established. AIS station is equipped to large vessels like ferries and tankers. Ubiquitous navigation system is developed for small vessels, especially for fishing vessels and pleasure boats. These informations are used for analysis of marine traffic, safety navigation system, and estimation of fishery resources. However, these informations are not coordinately utilized.
In this study, the authors have developed the superimposed display system of position information for collaborative usage. In this system, position informations of large vessels are gathered by sniffing AIS messages and ubiquitous navigation system transmits GPS data via cellar phone network. Collected position data are displayed on PCs and tablet terminals in real time. In order to utilize and evaluate the system for navigation support, we introduced the system to ferries and fishing vessels for Spanish mackerel drift net fishing. The results show the developed system is effective for navigation support in Osaka bay.
